New to Cloth Diapers?

If you are new to cloth diapers, we highly recommend you sample a few items first (to try on baby for fit) before making a large purchase!

Elegant fabrics were chosen for all our designs because they are unique, offer softness, comfort, absorbency, and are beautiful high quality organic fabrics.

 Why Choose Cloth Diapers?

Cloth diapers? You must be kidding, Right?!! Sometimes that’s the response I get along with a funny look. Cloth diapering has come far since we were wearing them (no more rubber covers that smell). Today, cloth diapers are quite stylish! Yes, they take a little more effort than aimlessly tossing out a disposable but knowing cloth is healthier for baby and our environment is all that personally mattered to us. Cloth diapers contain no questionable chemicals, are reusable, eco-friendly (biodegradable), natural, breathable (less diaper rash, if any), comfortable, convenient, economical, and we can’t forget the cuteness factor of seeing a little one toddling around in cloth!

Types of Cloth Diapers

Tidbit offers two (2) types of organic cloth diapers; prefolds and fitteds. These are not waterproof and do require a separate cover, which we do offer.

Prefolds: A prefold is rectangle shaped with three sections. The middle section has more fabric sewn-in for added absorbency. Prefolds are both versatile (can be used as absorbent cloth diaper, diaper doubler, burp cloth, lap pad, etc..) and the most economical of cloth diapers. Our prefolds generally do not need to be fastened with pins or Snappi’s when used with a “wrap-style” cover. The prefold can simply be folded into thirds and placed in the wrap/cover. We do offer diaper pins and Snappi fasteners for those families who enjoy using these.

Fitted Cloth Diapers: A fitted diaper requires no folding. They are designed with a contour shape with snap closures and elastic leg openings for a snug fit and to keep messes where they belong!

Cloth Soakers & Doublers: Soakers are just that - They make the diaper more absorbent. Soakers / doublers are placed between baby and diaper. Our prefold soaker is the middle layer. A “snap-in” soaker is included with our fitted cloth diapers. For added absorbency (long trips, naps, overnight, heavy wetters) we recommend adding cloth doublers. Our doublers are “lay-in” style and add extra layers of absorbency while keeping our design trim fitting, “quick-dry” and laundry friendly.

Merino Wool Diaper Covers: A great choice for cloth diaper covers! Soft, breathable, comfortable, and easy-to-care for. You only need 4-6 covers too. Wool covers only need to be washed once every 1-2 weeks or when soiled! Hang covers to dry when damp, between diaper changes. Re-lanolize once every 4-6 weeks or when you notice less waterproofness.

Wool Doublers: Wool Doublers are perfect for added moisture control. Particularly for heavy wetters, overnight, or extended trips! These wool doublers fit perfectly between cloth diaper and wool cover ~ they give lightweight covers a boost!

Raw Noil Silk Liners: Raw Noil Silk is a very versatile silk. The texture is nubbly with a heavy weave and a matte finish, like cotton. This silk has not been stripped, meaning it still contains "sericin" (a natural wax from the silkworms). Sericin offers both antibacterial and antifungal properties.
Silk liners do not add absorbency in the cloth diaper. Instead, they absorb and release moisture easily. An ideal natural choice (instead of synthetics) for drawing moisture away from baby's skin during diaper and teething rashes. Also, can be used as momma's panty liner, or in nursing pads.

How Many Cloth Diapers Will I Need?

How many cloth diapers you need will depend on: your baby’s age, if you will be a full-time cloth diaperer, how often you change your baby and how often you plan to do laundry.

Child's Age (approx.)

If you Wash Daily (approx. needed)

Newborn - 5 months 12 - 14 cloth diapers or prefolds
Infant (5-10 months) 10 - 12 cloth diapers or prefolds
Toddler (10 months+) 8 - 10 cloth diapers or prefolds

Wool Cloth Diaper Covers 4 - 6 (if using prefolds may need a few more)
Doublers 2  (if at night only; more if using during the day)
Silk liners 2  (if at night only; more if using during the day)
Cloth wipes/washcloths 12  (more if needed for each changing)

Whether you choose to cloth diaper full-time or part-time, cloth diapering and the diaper system you choose is your personal decision. As with anything new, at first, it all can be overwhelming. Soon you will find what works best for you and your little one.

Have fun and enjoy each moment ~ they are only little for a bit!
